[A day late for Christmas, but Sonia nevertheless prepared a gift for her dear friend. Ruby loves chocolate chips cookies, right? In which case she would like the tray of chocolate chip gingerbread man she baked for her. Even though all of them looks like some misshapen-shaped monstrosities that are all begging for death.
Sonia thinks they look fine, but so long as they taste good then everything's fine! She's visiting the Beacon house to personally hand the gift over to her, so when she reaches the front door she give it one solid knock. Or she'll send her a telepathic message if the door's unanswered.]
Ruby. It's Sonia, and I have something for you. I'm outside the house.
[ Ruby is no harsh judge when it comes to cookies, so she's all but guaranteed to love them when she receives them. But at the moment, she has no suspicions about why Sonia might have brought her. Sure, it's the day after Christmas, but she doesn't want to be presumptuous!
Still, she's zipping down the stairs a moment later, throwing the door open wide and greeting Sonia with a wide grin. ]
Hiya, Sonia! How are you?
[ Said while definitely trying to peak at what Sonia has brought for her. ]
[How nice! She won't feel slighted because of her cookies' presentation. Thanks to his time here, he'd worked out his avatar to be much more expressive and less line-facey. And to reflect that, a shy but friendly smile immediately curves on Sonia's lips to meet with Ruby's grin.
As for what Sonia brought, it's a tray full of... well, ginger cookies that are vaguely man-shaped. Actually, most of them are oddly-shaped, so calling them all man-shaped would be generous. At least they're obviously chocolate chipped.]
Well enough.
[Though she's not going to be the focus here. Instead, she'll offer up the tray on her hands to Ruby.]
I baked these for myself- ... gingerbread men they called it -but I thought I should give the excess to my friend. [Nah, the real reason was that she made them all for Ruby. No way will she ever admit to that though.] I believe I've added an ingredient you'll like.
[ Ruby's eyes are, of course, immediately drawn to the contents of that tray. Oooh...are those cookies for her?! ]
You shouldn't have! This is so thoughtful!
[ And as soon as Sonia offers her the tray, and it takes all her strength of will to not pop one into her mouth immediately. It's difficult to be in the presence of cookies and not try them, okay! ]
[Ruby could just gobble them all up right now and Sonia wouldn't mind one bit. Maybe she'll make a snide comment or two, but she still wouldn't mind.]
Chocolate chip. [Made specifically for Ruby!] I wasn't sure if they would go well with gingerbread at first- this was all an experiment. But they turned out well as I hoped.
[And, to be honest, anything she would try to cook or bake would be an experiment. She only started to take an interest in that after two years being here.]
Ruby doesn't hesitate a moment longer. She reaches for one of the gingerbread cookies and crams it right into her mouth, gobbling the whole thing up in one large bite. She takes her time savoring it, though, because it is delicious. Sure, it's hard to go wrong when chocolate chips are involved, bu still! ]
[There she goes... Immediately gobble one up the moment she drops one simple ingredient. She expected as much, but she still has to keep herself from chuckling at the sight. Chocolate chips are always good, no doubt about that.]
I'm glad you like them. I've done my research and worked hard to get them to taste good.
[Bunch of failed attempts before, horribly burnt, lumpy... The presentation of the cookies needs a lot of work than not at all, but she's glad this batch ended up delicious anyway.]
You can have them all. Or share them with all your other friends. Your choice.
[She made enough. Even though the cookies are mainly accommodated for Ruby in mind.]
[ Ruby might intend to share them with her friends, but whether or not that actually happens will remain to be seen. It will depend on how generous she's feeling...and how hungry.
However, as she crams another cookie into her mouth: ]
You should have a couple, too! Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
[ Ruby wouldn't want to deprive Sonia of her own amazing baking! ]
[Sonia's just fine standing here and... just keep holding the tray while Ruby enjoys the cookies herself in front of her. She really doesn't mind! She's passive that way. So she's visibly surprised at the offer, her brows lifting in an arc.]
Well, these are all for you, Ruby, but hrm. ... Sure. Perhaps... having one or two for myself wouldn't hurt.
[And so she reaches for one and takes a small bite. Little by little, spots of blue light sparkle around her as she chews the cookies inside, savoring the flavour.]
These are good... [She's taken aback somewhat by her own cookies.]
[ It certainly wouldn't hurt, and Ruby somehow finds away to smile even brighter when Sonia tries her own cookies. Even if she made them for Ruby, she can't deprive Sonia of her own delicious creation entirely!
...Though she may not end up sharing many with her housemates after all, whoops. ]
They really are! You have a gift. Do you bake a lot?
[ She says, scooping yet another cookie into her mouth. ]
Sonia is still munching on the same cookie, chewing it at her own leisure pace-- she's not quite like Ruby. She won't take forever, though, and will take a second one later and call it there.]
A gift...? [That praise feels strong considering her current baking skill level, but it's sincere... Which has her feeling a little meek and happy about it.] Ah, no... I started baking a few months ago. I'm still new to it.
[ As she continues to munch on cookies, speaking through a mouthful: ]
Wow, really?! That's amazing! I started to learn how to cook over a year ago, and I still can't do much better than grilled cheese sandwiches! You must be a natural.
[ And she's not just saying that so Sonia will bring her more cookies, honest! Though it wouldn't be such a bad thing if she did... ]
[Well she might actually send more in the future-- there's no one else she knows who loves cookies more than Ruby. And if there's ever a need for a cookie tester, Ruby's certainly on top of her list. But gosh... more praises. Very quietly, she says:]
Thanks...
[...]
Grilled cheese sandwiches...? [Hmm, nope. No idea what those are.] I never had them before. Perhaps... I could try yours as a first next time. And... with enough time and practice, you could perhaps make something more than that?
[ They're both great ideas, especially since Ruby has considered taking up employment at the Hearth sometime soon. Just as a server, but still, being an environment like that, of course she should learn to cook more! Maybe someday, she'll be able to make paella for her whole team without any supervision at all!
...She has weird goals. ]
You've got yourself a deal! Come over for lunch sometime, and I'll give you the best grilled cheese you've ever had! ...Which I guess won't be all that hard, if you've never had one before.
