[ Yang, please. Is it even a question of whether or not she's going to follow that scent?
Shortly after the smell of the cookies travels up to their room, Ruby bolts downstairs, jumping the banister and boosting herself with her semblance into the kitchen to find the source of it. If someone is baking cookies in the house, she has to know about it!
...She's not expecting to find Yang behind them, though. Ruby has always been good at reading her sister, and even if the cookies weren't a tip-off, that humming and dish-cleaning would be all too telling.
Something is up. ]
Yang! You remembered my...houseplant's birthday! That's so sweet of you!
[Yang laughs at that, rinsing out the last bowl and putting it away.]
Nice guess, sis. [She glances over her shoulder with a raised eyebrow, amusement written all over her features.] But I had no idea your houseplant's a November baby.
[Some timer dings nearby and Yang heads over to the oven, opening it up and releasing a fresh wave of warm-baked cookie scent. One of the upsides to having one arm that's not technically real is she doesn't have to bother with an oven mitt as she grabs the cookie tray out of the oven and puts it down on the stove-top.
She inhales deeply and sighs out in satisfaction.]
[ Well, that's fine. Ruby will get some cookies, one way or another!
So she continues to hover, peering right next to Yang's shoulder as she pulls the cookies from the oven and sets them down. Oh, those look positively heavenly... ]
What's the occasion, then?
[ Tell her, tell her!! If she knows what's being celebrated she can make an excuse to eat one of these! ]
[No, they're not. But technically, they're not necessarily intended to celebrate anything either. "Bribe" would probably be the word their uncle would use.
Yang grabs a spatula and starts transferring the cookies over onto some cooling racks and then:]
I talked to Weiss last night.
[Because that's not a topic change out of nowhere.]
[ Ruby's more than happy to accept the "just because" cookies, just because. She hovers right next to Yang's shoulders as she starts to remove the cookies from the pan, all but ready to pick one off the cooling rank despite the fact that they are definitely not cooled yet, when Yang drops that little tidbit of information on her. ]
You...did? [ Her cookie-addled brain doesn't yet recognize why that might be significant yet. ] Con...gratulations?
[ They're teammates! Isn't talking to each other a normal thing? ]
[ Clearly fully attentive, Ruby leans forward to inhale the sweet scent of baked magic cooling on the rack before prodding one with a fingertip. They're still a bit hot, perhaps, but they smell soooo good she might just have to risk a burned tongue for it. ]
[ On the one hand, Yang and Weiss talking about their kiss is probably waaaaay overdue. Briarlan was sooo long ago! Ruby had just assumed they figured things out already and had decided not to do anything about it.
[ ...After what seems an eternity of Ruby staring quizzically at her sister, piecing it all together in her head, she...
Erupts into laughter. ]
You - Weiss - Freezerburn! Hehehe -
[ There's just something so unexpected about it, but it feels...right, too. Yang is her sister, Weiss her partner, her two favorite people in the whole wide world. What's not to like about them trying to make each other happier like this?
So even though she still convulses with laughter, Ruby steps closer to Yang and pulls her into a bear hug. ]
[That staring was just starting to make Yang nervous, like maaaaybe Ruby's concerned this will mess up the team dynamics somehow or any other possible reason Ruby could have trouble responding to this, but with that laughter comes an almost instant wave of relief for Yang.
The hug is a bit of a surprise but a very welcome one and Yang hugs her tightly right back.]
Thanks, I... [A pause as she tries to find her words, she's getting a little choked up here.] ...I'm really glad. It means a lot to me.
[Ruby's the most important person in the world to her so for Ruby to be happy about this was a big deal.]
[ Of course Ruby is happy about it. Yang has a big, warm heart, but she's been hurt so much because of it. That she should choose to share it with Weiss is a big deal, and if there's anyone Ruby would trust with her sister's feelings, it's Weiss. ]
You guys deserve it. [ They absolutely do, and with a final squeeze, Ruby takes a half-step back. ] But if Weiss gives you any trouble...you just let me know, okay?
aaaaaw yeaaaaaaaaaaaah

About kissing her, Cookie Fiend.
[She giggles and puts the now emptied baking sheet aside to be wiped down later, turning to Ruby fully with a warm smile.]
...We're gonna try dating a little and see where it goes.
[Her tone is surprisingly bashful, like Yang still can't believe that this is a thing that actually happened.]
1/????? i'm so sorry

Bless you Ruby XD

You'll be the first, I promise.

[ And with that settled...Ruby's attention turns back to the cookies, of course. ]
Sooooo, how many of these do you think I can eat without getting sick?
no subject
Based on past experience? At least a dozen.
[And then she grins lop-sidedly.]
The better question is...how many are you allowed to have?
no subject
[ ...In an hour or so, she will probably regret it. ]

Alright. I guess since you're technically a world-saving adult now, you're old enough to know your limits.
[She says in her best facsimile of their dad's parental tone.
Turning aside, she waves her hand invitingly at the now mostly cooled, fresh tray of cookies.]
Have at.
[She'll make sure she has some calcium chews on hand for later.]
