[ It's at 4:30am that Weiss gets out of bed. The sun isn't up yet, and so are the other people in the Beacon house. She wants to make sure that Ruby has a good birthday, though. She isn't a member of Ruby's family or anything, and Yang isn't around, so of course it's up to her to make sure Ruby wakes up with a surprise!

She's bought and hidden a box of balloons in their broom closet, but she has to use a pump to blow them one by one. It takes a while, which means by the time Ruby gets up, she'll find their entire bedroom covered in red and black balloons, confetti, and more balloons. Some of the strings have a rose attached to them at the end, too. Count on Weiss to be Extra on all this.

She is also watching Ruby from her bed. (◕‿◕) ]

[ It's fortunate that Ruby is excited for her birthday and so doesn't sleep in quite as late as she might usually., so Wess won't have to wait too long for her to rise. Ruby stretches and groans as she sits up in bed, rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes, her consciousness still collecting. She'd been dreaming of something so nice, and then she had to go waking up early -

But as she opens her eyes and glances around the room, it dawns on her what day it is. It's her birthday, and the room is decorated to the nines with her color scheme. She takes a moment to gape at it all, wide-eyed and gasping delightedly. ]

This...is....[ brace yoself ] AMAZING!!!

[ She bellows that last word, shaking the whole house with the force of her emotion, and laughing as she glances down from her bed and catches sight of Weiss. Did she....!!! ]

Weiss! Did you do all this?!

[schmisse]

[ Classic Weiss smirk. She lets out a soft "hmph", too. ]

Of course I did. [ She gestures to the strings next to her. ] With Yang away, I'm your... closest. . . [ She pauses, then hums in thought, looking pretty troubled. ] Contact.

[ WEISS WILL NOT SAY FRIEND TODAY!! ]

Someone had to make sure you had a good birthday.

[ Wow, she won't even say it on her birthday?! But Ruby's too happy to give her too hard of a time about it. She's jumping down from her bed now, careful not to pop any balloons as she does so, and then she throws her arms around her closest "contact" in a suffocating bear hug. ]

Oh Weiss, thank you, thank you, thank youuuu! You're the best best friend a girl could ask for!

[ Ah, there it is. ]

[schmisse]

[ THIS IS NOT A DRAMATIC MOMENT OK!!!

But the bear hug throws her off and her breath is immediately cut off for a second or two. ]

I— [ Y I K E S. ] Can't. Breathe!

[crimsomatic]

[ IT IS TOO A DRAMATIC MOMENT. Just endure your hug, Weiss!!! ]

Hahaha, I'm soooo happy! [ And then she releases Weiss, but only so she can throw her arms into the air and march around in the sea of balloons. ]

[schmisse]

[ Oh... god, Ruby is such a dork. She can't help but smile goofily at all this - at Ruby's happiness. She's glad to have been a part of this day and this celebration.

Without even thinking, she puts a hand on Ruby's shoulder, patting it gently. ]

I'm 100% certain that your birthday party is going to be a lot grander.

[ Wait. Her party isn't a surprise, right? RIGHT??? ]

I do have one more thing to give you, though.

[ She reaches for a small box by her drawer and hands it to Ruby. Unlike the lavish decor in the room, this one is a simple black box. It's not much, but it's a rose hair pin! ]

It's-- for special occasions.

[crimsomatic]

[ Ruby gasps all over again, falls to sit on Yang's empty bed, and then jumps back up again, grasping Weiss by both of her shoulders. ]

We're having a party?! Omigosh I'M SO EXCITED!!!

[ it, evidently, was a surprise. Even if Ruby had dropped more than her fair share of hints about having one. Look, she's just made so many amazing friends here, it's totally reasonable for her to want to celebrate her birthday with all of them!!!

But Weiss is then handing Ruby a small box, and her mouth goes quiet and eyes wide with wonder once more as she lifts the lid off the box. Ah... ]

Weiss! It's lovely! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

[ ...Aaaand she's throwing her arms around her once more. ]

[schmisse]

[ oh... well this is the day Weiss spoiled a surprise. :');;;;;;; NOBODY TELL THE OTHERS.

Once again, she is hugged and Weiss feels like there's no point anymore. She may as well hug Ruby back!! ]

You're welcome.

[ What do people do when they're hugging others? Uh... okay, have a pat on the head, Ruby. ]

[ This is why no one ever tells Weiss anything, including the identity of Pluto Boobly...smh.

But no matter, the important thing here is that Weiss is hugging her back, and they're not even in a dream this time! It's such a rare moment, that Ruby even gasps quietly, but she won't draw it out. After all, if she's going to encourage Weiss into more hugs she's got to make them not completely miserably for her!

So a moment later, Ruby steps back, taking the hair pin out of the box and sticking it in her hair at crookedly. ]

How does it look?

[schmisse]

Classy.

[ Which means it doesn't suit Ruby much. ]

You have to wear it with a party dress or a gown so it'll look even better on you.

For special occasions...right! I guess I need to find more parties to go to, huh?

[ She'll find an excuse to wear it, yet! ]

[schmisse]

Maybe you can wear it during one of the festivals here.

[ Or, you know... ]

You could also wear a gown at home for no reason. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

[crimsomatic]

[ Of course Weiss doesn't think there's anything wrong with that. ]

Wear a gown around the house? Just...for fun?

[ Let's not get crazy here, Weiss!! ]

Why are you making it sound like it's such a bad idea?

[ DRESSING UP IS FUN, OKAY!!! ]

I'm not!!

[ She kind of is. ]

It's just not the sort of thing I would normally think to do for fun, that's all!

[schmisse]

You say that, but have you tried it?

[crimsomatic]

...Noooot yet I haven't!

[ But...maybe....soon. ]

[schmisse]

Then don't make any judgments before you've tried it.

[ Because it is fun. :( But that's one of the most hypocritical things Weiss could ever say tbh. ]

Okay! Fine! I'll try it.

[ ... ]

Sometime.

[ Not today!!! She gets to wear whatever she wants and not be judged for it on her birthday. ]

[schmisse]

Of course. Now, I think you should go down.

[ THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING ELSE DOWNSTAIRS!!! :)

None from Weiss, though. But the others might have something for her! ]

[ Ruby nods, setting the hair pin down on the nightstand before marching into the middle of the balloon-filled room. ]
