“As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books... Someone who fought for what was right, and protected people who couldn't protect themselves!”

Ruby Rose is the leader of Team RWBY - and one of the youngest students at Beacon when she started there. As overwhelmed as she was initially by being at Beacon, one of the most prestigious academies for Huntsmen and Huntresses in all of Remnant, she quickly grew into her own by...well, being herself. Ruby stands by what she believes in, and she doesn’t let the trouble and strife going on in the world around her change her too much. As much as she has to learn about being a leader and a Huntress, and as much as she may be unsure of herself at times, Ruby sticks to her guns and always follows through when other people need her. She never leaves anyone behind, and she worries about herself last. Yes, she had to grow and develop to become a strong leader, and there’s still a lot she has to learn, but through her adversity she’s found the qualities to be the hero she’s always want to be have been in her the whole time.

Ruby is absolutely ecstatic to become a student at Beacon, and to be able to train fully as a huntress. That said, she initially has some feelings of inadequacy when thinking about just what a big deal it is that she’s a student at Beacon at such a young age. She clings to Yang initially, though begins to make a few friends with some nudges (physically) in the right direction from her sister. As Ruby studies at Beacon, her confidence begins to grow, and her enthusiasm never wavers. Indeed, from day one, Ruby is extraordinarily excited to be doing what she’s doing. She’s always wanted to protect people and do the right thing, and becoming a Huntress is how she’s always wanted to do that. Her dreams are literally coming true, and even if she’s a bit nervous at first, she doesn’t shy away when she is appointed as team leader of RWBY, despite being the youngest member of the group. Ruby gives the things she’s passionate about her all, and is quite smart and clever about those things as well. She does sometimes give off the impression of being an airhead, because she tends to goof off in class and takes some things less seriously than she maybe should. However, even if she’s not all that focused on her schoolwork, she is focused on doing her best for her team. And when it really matters most, she always comes through for them.

Ruby’s sharp thinking manifests itself most clearly on the battlefield, where she is able to come up with strategies and plans of attack on the fly. She’s impulsive when facing off with enemies, preferring to be on the offensive rather than waiting around for her opponent to strike first. She sometimes acts too quickly, but she’s quick to recover and devise a new plan for her or her team. And Ruby isn’t just quick in a fight. Her semblance is speed, and this carries over into her day to day life. She acts quickly, gets swept up in ideas, and can get bored easily if she’s not engaged in what’s going on around her. There’s never a dull moment around Ruby Rose.

“Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose. I just really like seeing new [weapons]. It's like meeting new people... but better...

For all of her enthusiasm, Ruby is a bit of an awkward duck in social situations. She struggles feeling comfortable when trying to make new friends, and she stumbles over her words or says things that could be taken the wrong way. There have even been extreme circumstances, such as when Ruby first met Weiss and caused an actual explosion by sneezing. However, as Ruby has aged over the course of the series, she’s gotten a little more adept at navigating herself socially. She’s comfortable around her friends, even if she still causes occasional awkward moments when around them. She’s also sincere with just about anyone she meets. Part of this is because she’s a terrible liar, but for the most part, Ruby is just honest and blunt and believes the good in everyone around her. She gives people the benefit of the doubt, and when they come to her for advice or help, she is always happy to lend a hand, even if her assistance can, at times, be quite unorthodox. Despite her friendly and honest nature, Ruby doesn't always get along with everyone. This is most evident near the beginning of her partnership with Weiss when the two of them were often at odds. However, Ruby doesn't give up on trying to understand others, and she and Weiss were able to learn each other's strengths and weaknesses to become stronger partners together. They learned to balance each other out rather than pick fights over petty things. That said, her strong will can still sometimes cause her to butt heads with others, and she's not entirely mature when she does so.

“You think just because you've got nuts and bolts instead of squishy guts makes you any less real than me?”

Ruby is genuine and doesn’t judge people based on appearances. She never held Blake keeping her identity as a Faunus a secret against her, instead insisting on seeking out her friend as soon as she went missing. She doesn’t think of Penny of any less of a person because she’s a robot. She’s willing to give people chances, even when she maybe shouldn’t, because she believes the best in everyone. It’s sometimes difficult for her to understand why people do bad things, and her mercy doesn’t go so far as to let the bad guys go when she knows they’re in the wrong. In fact, Ruby has quite a bit of fun when investigating Roman Torchwick. She doesn’t hesitate to act when she needs to.

“We've all lost something, and I've seen what loss can do to people. But if we gave up every time we lost, then we'd never be able to move forward.”

Ruby is a fighter to the end. Even when things look their worst, Ruby always manages to bounce back and do whatever she can for her friends and for Remnant as a whole. Even when Beacon falls, Pyrrha is killed and Yang loses her arm, Ruby doesn’t let herself become consumed by her grief. She decides to do something, because she realizes how important it is to keep moving at times like those. Things may be hard, and every day of her journey may bring more struggles that weigh her down, but Ruby keeps moving. She keeps fighting. She’ll always try to pull through for those around her, and even if that means putting herself aside, that’s what makes her happy. As bleak as things might be, she’s doing what she’s always wanted to do - fighting for what’s right and protecting those who can’t protect themselves. She won’t give up, and she’ll keep encouraging her friends to do the same. After all, if they stick together and keep fighting, nothing will be able to stop them.

Abilities: Ruby is a trained Huntress, and as such, is able to tap into her aura, a magical power that works something like hit points. It’s a force field that protects her from serious injury in a fight, so she can be pummeled through stone walls and such without being gravely injured or killed. Of course, like hit points, when her aura depletes she becomes vulnerable to more serious injuries. She has to keep her aura in check to keep herself safe.

Ruby’s signature weapon is Crescent Rose, a high-impact, customizable sniper rifle/scythe that can conveniently fold into a sheathe she wears on her back. Ruby built it herself, and has trained with it for years, making the two of them quite a formidable duo. The weapon uses different kinds of ammunition that have different effects, and folds out to several different forms for Ruby’s convenience. In conjunction with Ruby’s Speed semblance - an extra-special ability she uses through her aura - Ruby is able to use Crescent Rose’s recoil to whip herself around in the air and make rapid adjustments to her movement.

Her semblance allows her to increase her speed greatly, to the point where she can even create whirlwinds with it. Her speed carries her so fast that at times it appears she can teleport, and she even leaves a trail of rose petals in her wake.

Ruby’s most special - and most mysterious - abilities come from her silver eyes. She inherited them from her mother, and are the mark of the greatest of warriors. Ruby has only used this power once in reaction to her grief at seeing Pyrrha die, and she doesn’t remember anything about it, but it caused significant damage, freezing a Grimm dragon and maiming Cinder Fall. There is still a lot unknown about this power, but it seems to be triggered by the most extreme of emotions, and probably won’t really come into play in the game.

Other: Ruby's weapon, Crescent Rose, is never far from her side. It's also a gun.
